FREE STUDENT TICKETS TO SELMA ON MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY
Grand Rapids, Michigan – – Thursday, January, 15 – 2015 – – Celebration! Cinema is pleased to announce that any student bearing a valid student ID will receive FREE admission to the movie SELMA on Martin Luther King Day – Monday, January 19.
“We are proud to be in the business of telling stories and this movie tells an important one,” said Emily Loeks, Director of Community Affairs for Celebration! Cinema. “There is a reason that our nation pauses to recognize the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. each year. The work is ongoing. We have an opportunity with the movie SELMA to deepen understanding and conversation. We want students to see this movie!”
SELMA is the story of a movement. The film chronicles the tumultuous three-month period in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a dangerous campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition. The epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama culminated in President Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one of the most significant victories for the civil rights movement. SELMA tells the real story of how the revered leader and visionary Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his brothers and sisters in the movement prompted change that forever altered history.
