Fatal Fire at 291 Orchard

Fatal fire on Orchard St.
On Friday, February 6th, 2015 at 10:31pm Firefighters of the Muskegon Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 291 Orchard Ave. Fire crews arrived to find flames and heavy smoke coming from the two story single family residence.

A 52 year old man, suffering critical inhalation injuries was taken by ambulance to a local Hospital for treatment before being airlifted to Grand Rapids for more advanced care.

Firefighters battled through heavy smoke and flames to locate an 83 year old woman on the second floor. Despite extensive resuscitation efforts to revive her, the woman was pronounced dead at Hackley Hospital.
The fire was extinguished and the last firefighters cleared the scene at 1:41 am.

A joint Fire and Police investigation is currently on going, and a cause is undetermined at this time.
