City of Muskegon “Equal Opportunity Committee”

The City Commission has decided to reinstate the Equal Opportunity Committee (EOC) for the
City of Muskegon.
The EOC was dissolved by the City Commission in 2011, but City Commissioners agreed it was
time to bring it back. “Commissioner German asked our Community Relations Committee to
consider reinstating the EOC and Commissioners concurred. Commissioners German, Hood,
and myself along with staff members recommended additional responsibilities be added to the
committee including addressing discrimination complaints internally and externally, tax
abatement policy compliance, as well as educational and programmatic initiatives and activities
are among some of the duties this committee will be responsible for.”
The board will be made up of four citizens (one representative from each Ward), two at-large
citizens, two City Commissioners (ex-officio), and one County EEO Director/Office. Residents
interested in serving on this board are encouraged to fill out a talent bank application at
http://www.muskegon-mi.gov/departments/city-clerk/serving-on-a-board/ or contact the City
Clerk at 231-724-6705.
