MUSKEGON HEIGHTS PUBLIC SCHOOL ACADEMY SYSTEM ANNOUNCES STAFF CHANGES

The Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System is committed to on-going improvement. In our effort to ensure students are able to achieve to their potential, we are pleased to announce the following changes for second semester.
Beginning February 4, 2013, Mrs. Carla Turner-Laws will serve as interim Head of School at the Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System High School. Mrs. Turner-Laws comes to MHPSAS from Muskegon Public Schools where she has been employed for the past several years. Her work experience includes teacher, interim principal, and central office administrator. Her scope of work includes extensive professional development, staff training, school improvement, and instructional quality. Mrs. Turner-Laws is a graduate of Muskegon Heights High School and she has a long history of involvement in the community. Her father served as a member of the Muskegon Heights Board of Education for a number of years. She is very excited about “coming home” to make a difference in the lives of our young people.
Also, Ms. Patrice Johnson will be joining the Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System staff as the new Parent Liaison. She is a proud graduate of the Muskegon Heights Public School system and a member of the Muskegon Heights City Council. Her enthusiasm, knowledge of the community and willingness to serve our parents is what makes us excited about her joining our staff.
Lastly, Mrs. Lisa Cook, middle school counselor, will be joining the high school part time to further ensure that the needs in the counseling office are being met. Her previous experience and expertise as high school counselor is greatly appreciated and will be utilized to provide our students with the guidance necessary to continue our success with scholarship opportunities, early college and dual enrollment.
“The experience that these changes bring to the team will allow us to build on the progress that is being made to ensure all students succeed,” said Alena Zachery-Ross, Regional Vice President / Superintendent of the newly chartered system. “We invite the community to attend a reception welcoming our new staff on Wednesday, February 6,” added Zachery-Ross. The welcome reception will begin at 6:00 pm at Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System High School in Tiger Way at 2441 Sanford, Muskegon Heights, MI.
