Social Justice Commission Organizes Gun Buyback for Muskegon/Muskegon Heights.

Muskegon Heights, June 22, 2011 – The Social Justice Commission of Muskegon County has organized a gun buyback program which will offer residents of the cities of Muskegon and Muskegon Heights the opportunity turn in guns.

The buyback event will take place on Saturday, June 25th at the Corinthians Baptist Church, 2027 Peck Street in Muskegon Heights.  The event hours are 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM.

Residents may turn in weapons and will be granted amnesty from any gun possession charges that may be associated with the weapons.  Weapons must be unloaded and ammunition will not be accepted.

Payment for each weapon is as follows:

  • $25 for non-working, single shot or .22 caliber handguns.
  • $50 for working handguns and multiple shot long guns.
  • $75 for high capacity (10 or more rounds) handguns.
  • $100 for assault weapons.

Residents must present photo identification indicating that they reside within either of the two cities.

Funding for this event is being provided by the Muskegon Oceana Community Action Partnership.
