Officer involved shooting investigation

Officers of the Muskegon Police Department are investigating the discharge of a firearm by a member of the department which occurred at approximately 2358 hours, August 28, 2011, near the area of Fifth Street and Southern Avenue. Responding Officers were originally sent to the area for a call of shots fired and located three subjects.

The initial responding Officer advised a subject to raise his hands and the subject pulled a handgun from the waistband of his pants and raised the handgun toward the Officer. The Officer, a six year veteran, fired a single shot at the subject missing him. The subject ran from the Officer and was later located in the area while attempting to hide from Officers.

While taking the subject into custody, Officers located a loaded handgun. The subject was lodged at the Muskegon County Jail and the investigation continues.
