Muskegon Heights, Mich. — In light of today’s Michigan Supreme Court P.A. 4 ruling
to put the emergency manager state law on the November statewide ballot, it is
business as usual at Muskegon Heights Public School Academy School System as it
prepares to open new charter schools this September.

“The decision by the Supreme Court today does not stop the progress underway in
Muskegon Heights. There is a charter school board in place to carry out the work of
opening high quality schools with Mosaica Education in September.”

“Today’s ruling has no effect for Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System
students, teachers and staff as everything is running as planned for the start of our
new school year. We are continuing our efforts to hire our team to provide an
inspirational, innovative, and safe learning environment. We want to assure parents in
Muskegon Heights that we are moving forward in gearing up for the upcoming school
year and now is the time to enroll their students in the Muskegon Heights Public
School Academy System.”

Enrollment for Muskegon Heights continues to grow. Enrollment is up to 336, up from 250 last
week. Mosaica representatives are confident that the school district is on target to have over
1,200 students enrolled by opening day.
Mosaica Education has hired school administrators, coaches and band director, which includes
former principals, coaches and band director.

The following have been hired:
• Alena Zachery-Ross, Regional Vice President (RVP) of Muskegon Heights.
• Former Muskegon Heights coach Glen Metcalf was hired as Athletic Director.
 Dr. Donna Johnson, Head of School for Muskegon Heights High School
 Andre Johnson, Head of School for Muskegon Heights Middle School
 Sonya Hernandez, Head of School for Edgewood
 Glenda Robinson Scott, Head of School for Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary
 Tony Blankenship, Head Football Coach
 Kimberly Simmons, Head Girls Volleyball Coach
 Robert Moore, Band Director
• Mosaica plans to offer to approximately 70 teacher positions this week, majority of whom are
new to the MH district.
• An enrollment fair will be held Saturday, August 11 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Muskegon
Heights High School grounds.
