“Juneteenth Celebration & Movie Screening”
Muskegon, MI (June 10, 2014) – Imara Entertainment and 103.7fm The Beat are excited to announce our 1st Annual “I Am Juneteenth Celebration.” You are invited to celebrate with us and enjoy this free, fun, family event.
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. It originated in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865 as the African American Emancipation Day and has spread across the U.S. and beyond. Today Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom with emphasis on education and achievement. It is a day or week marked with celebrations, entertainment, guest speakers, family gatherings and much more. In cities across the country, people of all races, nationalities and religions join together to acknowledge a period in our history that shaped and continues to influence our society today.
The I Am Juneteenth Celebration will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Smith-Ryerson Park; 550 Wood Street in Muskegon, MI from 12:00pm – 6:00pm. The 6 hour celebration will include live entertainment, open mic, arts & crafts, moon bounce rides, 5 on 5 Basketball and Kick Ball Tournament, a black history contest, food and more. At the conclusion of the Juneteenth Celebration (6pm) a movie screening of the documentary Hidden Colors 2 will be shown. This event is sponsored in part by West Michigan Therapy, The West Michigan Lake Hawks, Bubbles Bounce, STL Entertainment and Eighty Nine Entertainment.
