Hundreds of locals attend annual job fair in Muskegon Heights

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, MI- The annual Thurgood Marshall Job, Health & Resource Fair drew hundreds of residents from the community to the Bishop William L. Burrell Multi- Plex Center on Wednesday.
The event, held by the West Michigan Community Help Network, has been a liaison between local residents and the workforce for more than 20 years.
The organization stated in a press release that they are “working with community groups, students, churches, non-profits, senior citizens and other public and private groups who are seeking to find jobs for people with fairness for all, regardless of race, creed or color.” The organization also stated, “Residents with diverse backgrounds and experiences are expected to attend the job fair. Candidates of all ages, experience levels and industries are encouraged to attend.”
Many local and regional companies were on site representing a variety of fields including West Michigan Works, Meijer, Shape Corps. and Muskegon Family Care. Applications were being accepted for entry level and management positions that are full-time, part-time and apprenticeship.
Muskegon County Public Defender Fred Johnson also hosted an expungement clinic at the fair to inform potential applicants how previous criminal records can affect their job search, and how they can be erased.
A free health checkup was available to all who attended courtesy of Healthcare Inc.
The event which usually sees a decrease in foot traffic during the last hour saw a steady flow of applicants until the end. The 2019 annual Thurgood Marshall Job, Health, & Resource Fair has been the West Michigan Community Help Networks largest job fair to date.

The West Michigan Community Help Network hosted the 2019 Thurgood Marshall Job & Health Fair in partnership with WUVS 103.7 the Beat, WUGM 106.1 Motown House/EDM, Tyson Foods, West Michigan Works, Mercy Health, Workforce and United Way of the Lakeshore.
