For Immediate Release:

Muskegon Heights,MI. 4/11/18 – Four Honor Roll students from Muskegon Heights Public Schools Academy and One Honor Roll student from Orchard View High School, will embark on a life-changing journey to Ghana, West Africa on Tuesday 4/17. The all-expenses paid trip is sponsored by 103.7 The Beat & M106-FM, and will include tours of the Abeadze Kyeakor Village, and the Slave Castles of Cape Coast.

Paul Allen Billings  says it’s been at the top of his bucket list to see to it that students from the area get a chance to accompany him to West Africa, a trip he has made many times, saying, “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s speech, ‘The Birth of a New Nation’ was inspired after King visited Ghana, and I wouldn’t be surprised if these students return from Africa with ideas to help change their communities as well.”

According to Billings, the only thing the students were asked to contribute towards the trip is the promise to utilize what they’ve learned upon their return to help make Muskegon a better place.

“Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.” – Maya Angelou

The students will be joined by two (2) teenagers from Orlando, Florida, who are being sponsored by 103.7 The Beat’s sister station – 98.5 The Wire.

Last year the group took six (6) teenagers from Muskegon Heights & Muskegon to Ghana, West Africa.
