Data Center Could Move Into Muskegon Area

By: Emily Guiles

For approximately 7 months The Right Place Inc. and Muskegon Area First have been trying to find potential buyers for a 650 acre plot of land on the northwest corner of the Muskegon County Wastewater management facility. Muskegon County economic developer Jonathon Wilson is trying to bring a data center into that area, Wilson believes that this would bring about much needed tax revenue and jobs.

This deal could hinge on tax exemptions that were approved by the state legislature that will affect all data centers. There is also another Nevada-based data storage company that want to move into the steelcase pyramid in Grand Rapids.

The data center would only create around 50 jobs and could happen as soon as 2017.
