COMMUNITY FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES GRANT OPPORTUNITIES

Nonprofit charitable organizations serving the Muskegon County region are eligible to apply for a grant from the Community Foundation for Muskegon County. Applications must be submitted online at www.cffmc.org. The grant deadline is August 15 for programs beginning after November 1; however, an Application of Intent should be submitted at least two weeks prior to the deadline. The Foundation will consider proposals in the following areas: arts and culture, health and human services, education, environment, emerging community needs, and Muskegon Downtown Development. In addition, the following funds will be awarding grants:

  • The HEALTHY Muskegon program will award grants to community organizations that are working to increase access to and consumption of health local foods, with a focus on youth and families in our urban core. Details of the grant program can be found at http://www.cffmc.org/learn/healthy-muskegon.

  • The Julia Hackley Memorial Fund of the Foundation will consider applications that support the needs of City of Muskegon residents, with priority given to meeting the needs of low-income individuals and families.

  • The Greater Muskegon Women and Children’s Fund will consider applications that focus on meeting the needs of Women and Children in Muskegon County.

  • The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) of the Foundation will consider applications that address projects and programs that focus on serving Muskegon County youth with priority given to projects that address teen pregnancy, drug and alcohol abuse, and college access.

  • The Environmental Endowment Fund will consider applications to improve the environment in and around the Muskegon region as well as to promote responsible and sustainable use of our natural resources.

  • The Muskegon County Medical Society Fund will accept applications that focus on programs and projects relating to health and science education and related activities.

  • The White Lake Community Fund will accept applications for projects in the White Lake area that address the following community needs: social services, environment, civic affairs, education and youth.

Potential grantseekers are encouraged to attend a grant preparation workshop to learn more about the Community Foundation and the competitive grant application process. These events will be held:

  • 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014in the Beardsley Theater, located inside the Hilt Building, 425 W. Western, Muskegon.

  • 3-4 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at White Lake Community Library, 3900 White Lake Drive, Whitehall.

  • 3:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the Muskegon Heights branch of the Muskegon Area District Library, 2808 Sanford, Muskegon Heights.

The Community Foundation for Muskegon County was created in 1961 to improve the quality of life for Muskegon County residents. A publicly supported community endowment, the Foundation receives and manages contributions from community citizens and organizations that are committed to the future of Muskegon County.
