Muskegon County has recently settled a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the surviving family members of Dahontae McKinley. He was an inmate in Muskegon County jail who was found dead in December 2012 by guards.

McKinley was discovered restrained to a chair and unresponsive. The guards involved said that he had been attempting to escape from his cell.

McKinley had been incarcerated for robbery, solicitation of prostitution and domestic violence.

The county confirms that an internal investigation into his death and the policies used by the guards involved. The investigation has found the guards not at fault and helped to settle the case.
